Yani Tseng defeated Maria Hjorth of Sweden in a playoff to clinch the LPGA Championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday.
The 19-year-old rookie from Taiwan said afterwards that claiming her first professional title with victory in a Major tournament was "unbelievable".
Tseng carded a final round of 68 in Maryland to finish level with Hjorth on 12 under par, while the LPGA''s top two players - Lorena Ochoa and Annika Storenstam - were tied for third on 11 under.
A six-foot birdie putt at the fourth extra hole gave Tseng victory at Bulle Rock, making her the second youngest player to win an LPGA title.
"I was very nervous - it was my first LPGA playoff. I told myself, it is just like in the amateurs - relax," she said later.
Tseng had an impressive record on the amateur circuit, winning 19 times and beating Michelle Wie in the final of the 2004 US Women''s Amateur Public Links Championship.
