Justin Leonard warmed up for this week''s US Open with a playoff victory in the Stanford St Jude Championship at Southwind.
The former Open champion shot a final round 68 to tie with Robert Allenby and Masters winner Trevor Immelman on four under.
He then had a great chance to claim victory on the first extra hole, only to narrowly miss what should have been the winning putt.
However, Nike professional Leonard made amends at the next, holing out for birdie to clinch his 12th PGA Tour win after his rivals had missed seemingly makeable putts.
Victory saw Leonard climb from 12th to third in the FedEx Cup standings and also saw him move up to fifth in the US Ryder Cup qualification table.
Segio Garcia and Padraig Harrington showed they were in good shape ahead of the season''s second major by finishing one shot back in a tie for fourth, along with Alex Cejka and Boo Weekley. |
