Colin Montgomerie has suggested that the Ryder Cup should be played over four days instead of the traditional three.
The Yonex golfer said that an extended format would make sense now that courses are getting longer and events frequently disrupted by unpredictable weather.
Montgomerie is a European Ryder Cup veteran having played in the competition eight times and claimed that "everyone would benefit" from an extra day, including players, spectators, sponsors and the media.
"To get everything done in three days isn''t necessary. We seem to be rushing around and for what reason?" the Scotsman said.
Montgomerie made his comments after the first round at the Wales Open, where he hit a 69 to finish the opening day six shots off Scott Strange''s lead.
Celtic Manor, the venue for this week''s European Tour event, will host the Ryder Cup in 2010, although Montgomerie faces a struggle to qualify and may have to rely on being selected as one of Nick Faldo''s captain''s picks.
