If Paul Azinger''s US Ryder Cup team win the tournament this September it will give the competition a much-needed boost.
That is the opinion of former European Ryder Cup captain Seve Ballesteros, who told the Mirror that he hopes the Americans can claim victory in this year''s event at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.
Spain''s most-famous golfer also said that the US team "badly" needs a win to put an end to Europe''s domination in the tournament over the last few years.
"I just hope the matches are a little bit closer because they have been no-contests," Ballesteros told the publication. "My heart is always with the Europeans but my head is with the Americans for the good of the trophy."
This year''s Ryder Cup takes place between September 16th and 21st. The last time the Americans tasted victory was in 1999 at the Country Club in Brooklin.
