Donald Trump will appear in person at this summer''s planning hearing into his proposed $1 billion golf resort in Scotland, it has been announced.
The US real estate tycoon told reporters in New York that he is prepared to make the development near Balmedie in Aberdeenshire a "top priority" for the Trump Organistation after Scottish finance secretary John Swinney ordered the inquiry.
Concerns over the environmental impact of the golf course caused the local council to throw out Trump''s original proposal, as part of the development will be situated on sand dunes which are protected as an area of scientific interest, the Scotsman reports.
Trump said yesterday: "I am confident I will be able to demonstrate my passion for this site, on which we want to create a world-class development that works in harmony with the natural environment.
"I am looking forward to visiting Aberdeen city
and meeting some of the many people who have been so supportive."
Plans for the golf resort include two championship-calibre courses and a 450-room hotel.
Trump is expected to play on his connections with Scotland at the planning inquiry, as his mother was born in the country.
