An American man is recovering in hospital this week after being attacked by an alligator at a golf course in Florida.
Dwight Monreal was scuba diving in a lake at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club to retrieve lost golf balls when the 11-foot animal was disturbed and became aggressive.
Golfer Matt Johnson came to Mr Monreal''s assistance and helped to fight off the reptile with one of his clubs, although not before the unfortunate diver suffered a dislocated shoulder and broken arm.
"It was one hell of a struggle. I just did what I could to help him," Mr Johnson explained after taking his four-iron to the animal''s head.
Mr Monreal described the time spent in the grip of the alligator as "the longest seven minutes of my life".
Play at the PGA Zurich Classic in New Orleans was interrupted last month when an alligator appeared on the green as Davis Love III prepared for a putt.
