Damien McGrane celebrated his first victory on the European Tour yesterday by winning the Volvo China Open.
With the closing day''s play made extremely difficult by torrential rainfall in Beijing, the Irishman shot a final round of 73 to finish the tournament on ten under par and nine shots ahead of the chasing pack.
English golfers Simon Griffiths and Oliver Wilson were tied for second place after finishing on one under par, along with Michael Lorenzo-Vera of France.
Speaking about the testing conditions after clinching victory, McGrane said: "The weather, if not on my side, helped stop other players making a charge at my lead.
"It was one of those days where everyone had to knuckle down and do the best they can."
McGrane''s previous best performances in tour events are third place finishes at the KLM Open and the French Open.
Leading Chinese hope Liang Wenchong shot a final round of 75 to finish joint eighth in Beijing.
