Brits tied for second at Verizon Heritage

Nick Dougherty and Brian Davis are among ten players tied for second place after the first round of the Verizon Heritage tournament.

The two English golfers both carded scores of 67 to finish four under par at the South Carolina course, with Americans Davis Love III, Lucas Glover and Justin Leonard tied for the lead on five under.

Callaway golfer Dougherty shot two birdies on both nines on the way to his encouraging first-day score at Hilton Head Island, while Davis matched his compatriot by scoring four birdies in five holes.

However, European number one Justin Rose was not so successful. The Taylormade golfer finished five over par with a score of 76 after four bogeys in six holes.

On the other side of the world, Michael Lorenzo-Vera took the first round lead in the Volvo China Open with a five-under-par 67.

Playing in his rookie year on the European Tour, the Frenchman bogeyed the opening hole in Beijing but followed up with three birdies on the front nine to emerge as the tournament''s surprise early leader.
