Woods backs Masters champ to "hang around" at top

Tiger Woods has said that he expects Trevor Immelman to become one of the PGA Tour''s top players after his triumph at the Masters last week.

Woods was forced to console himself with second place at Augusta, as Immelman outplayed the world number one in every department to claim the first Masters victory for a South African since Gary Player won his third title in 1978.

Paying tribute to his fellow Nike golfer after the tournament, Woods backed Immelman to build on his experience at Augusta and become a force to be reckoned with at future Majors.

Woods commented: "It was just a matter of when with Trevor - he has all the talent in the world.

"I expect him to hang around."

Woods carded a final round of 72 at Augusta on Sunday but it was not enough to catch Immelman, who finished on eight under par despite a brief hiccup at the 16th hole when he shot a double bogey.

The Cape Town native only recently recovered from having a benign tumour removed from his chest last December.
