Rose blooms to take joint lead

England''s Justin Rose finds himself four-under par after the first round of the Masters at Augusta - and shares the lead with South Africa''s Trevor Immelman.

Taylormade golfer Rose and Nike player Immelman carded 68, one ahead of Brian Bateman, Brandt Snedeker and Lee Westwood.

Competition favourite Tiger Woods shot a level par 72 and is part of the chasing pack slightly down the leaderboard.

After his impressive start, Rose was not getting carried away. "I''ve learned you can''t count your chickens too early," he said at the end of a hard day''s work.

He added that he is "not putting too much pressure on [himself]" and also suggested that now he may have the experience to "step up" his game on the big stage.

The 27-year-old player burst onto the scene at the Open in 1998. Only 17 at the time, Rose finished joint fourth and was the best-placed amateur.
