Sabbatini warms up with Par 3 win

Rory Sabbatini completed his Masters preparation with victory in the Par 3 Contest at Augusta yesterday.

The Adams golfer finished on five under par with a score of 22 to win the short hole competition, with Miguel Angel Jimenez and Woody Austin both one shot behind.

While no winner of the Par 3 has ever gone on to triumph at the Masters, Sabbatini revealed that knowledge of the "curse" did not deter him from playing to win on the nine-hole course.

"I wanted to win - you can''t break the curse unless you''ve won the Par 3 to begin with," the South African said.

Callaway golfer and world number two Phil Mickelson described the short hole tournament as "a great way to relieve some of the stress or pressure you feel heading into a Major".

Sabbatini was joint runner-up at last year''s Masters, finishing two shots behind winner Zach Johnson along with Tiger Woods and Retief Goosen. The 2007 Par 3 Contest was won by Mark O''Meara.
