British players hope for Masters success

The 2008 Masters begins at Augusta on Thursday (April 10th) with two of the UK''s top players looking to triumph at one of the toughest golf courses in the world.

Lee Westwood and Justin Rose travel to Georgia this week hoping to claim victory at the first Major of the year and European Number One Rose is eager to make amends after narrowly missing out on the title in 2007.

Speaking about his experience last year, when the 27-year-old finished in fifth place after being just one shot off the lead with two holes to play, Rose told BBC Sport that playing at Augusta "gets easier and easier the more times you''re in contention".

"This is the kind of golf course that you learn from, whether you have a good or bad day," the Taylormade golfer said.

Meanwhile, Ping golfer Westwood revealed that he is feeling "closer to a Major than ever" after a series of top-ten finishes this season.

"I''m bringing most facets of my game up to a good level - a level where I feel I can compete in the Majors," the 34-year old stated.
