Karen Stupples tops the leaderboard at the Kraft Nabisco Championship this morning.
The 35-year-old English golfer has a one-stroke lead in the first women''s Major of 2008 after carding a first round of 67 at Mission Hills in California, the BBC reports.
Stupples'' five-under-par first day puts her one shot ahead of World Number 1 Lorena Ochoa and Ai Miyazato of Japan.
Born in Kent but now resident in Florida, Stupples took time out from the women''s tour after giving birth to her son 12 months ago, but feels that a period away from competitive golf has helped to improve her game.
"It gave me a chance to recuperate and recharge mentally," she said.
"When you have a baby you have to learn a bit of patience and that''s always been a tough thing for me, so I think it''s been really good for me."
Stupples turned pro in 1998 and won the British Women''s Open in 2004.
