Donald Trump has denied claims that he believes planning approval for his new golf resort in Scotland is a foregone conclusion.
An interview with the US tycoon published in Vanity Fair caused controversy after Trump was reported to have told journalist Alex Shoutamoff "between you and me, I''m going to get it", despite his application for the golf complex on the eastern coast of Scotland still being under review.
The comments prompted Scottish newspapers such as the Daily Record to accuse the original star of The Apprentice of "boasting" and "massaging his own ego", but Trump has subsequently claimed that the interview was conducted last year, when the situation regarding the golf course was different.
He said: "This interview took place in November [2007], just as our proposals had been approved by the area committee and long before the Scottish government stepped in.
"I am taking the public inquiry process very seriously."
If given the go-ahead, Trump will build two "championship calibre" golf courses in the sand dunes of Balmedie, Aberdeenshire.
