Scott hits record first round at Houston Open

Adam Scott is the joint leader at the Houston Open after setting a new Redstone Golf Club record with his first round score of 63 yesterday (April 3rd).

The Titleist golfer hit six birdies in the front nine on his way to a nine-under-par finish in Texas, including a 55-foot putt for birdie on the opening hole.

However, the defending champion''s record-breaking score - also the lowest opening round on the PGA Tour this season - was later matched by Johnson Wagner, who also finished the first day on nine under par.

Scott''s fellow Australian and recent WGC-CA champion Geoff Ogilvy finished on five under with a first-round 67, while World Number 4 Steve Stricker was one stroke ahead on 66.

Elsewhere in the field, two players coming back after injury kept sight of the pack with rounds of 69 - Jose Maria Olazabal and Davis Love III were both three under par after the first day.

Wilson golfer Padraig Harrington finished on one under par with 71, extending his current run of par-or-better rounds to a total of 13, which is the longest streak on the Tour.
