Love hoping to make Masters

This week''s Houston Open is likely to mark a crucial point in Davis Love III''s season.

With the Titleist golfer needing to win at Redstone to qualify for the Masters, failure will mean that his run of 70 major championship appearances in a row comes to an end, Golf.com reports.

Love has featured in every Major since the 1990 US Open - currently the longest streak of appearances on the professional tour and a record which he is keen to preserve.

To do so, he will have to improve on recent performances and continue to recover from the ankle injury that curtailed his season last year.

Love said on Tuesday (April 1st): "This is a week to try to get in the Masters. This is also a week to try to get my year going.

"I''m very thankful that I''m back playing."

The 43-year-old revealed that his doctors advised him not to attempt to qualify for the Masters but, after five months recuperating, he feels he is ready for Augusta.

Love claimed his one Major title in 1997, when he won the PGA Championship.
