Planning officials in Scotland will begin an inquiry into Donald Trump''s proposal for a major new golf resort on June 10th, it has been announced.
The US tycoon wants to situate the £1 billion development near Balmedie in Aberdeenshire, but faces opposition from local people due to concerns that the complex could spoil the surrounding coastal area, the Scotsman reports.
While the Trump Organisation is yet to confirm if Mr Trump will appear at the inquiry himself, an estimated total of 30 witnesses are expected to speak both for and against the golf resort.
George Sorial, head of international development at the Trump Organisation, said: "Let''s just see how things go in the next month or two.
"We are happy that the process has started and we are very much looking forward to June 10th."
Already a billionaire from his real estate and entertainment empire, Mr Trump raised his profile in 2004 as the star of popular US television show The Apprentice. The format was then acquired by the BBC and re-launched for UK audiences with Sir Alan Sugar.
