Robert Allenby
Residence: Jupiter, Florida, and Melbourne, Australia
DOB: 12/07/1971
In 1989 he won the Australian Juniors Amateur Championship and turned professional in 1992 when he was playing of a staggering +4 handicap. He was introduced to the game by his father, Don, was a professional in Leeds before emigrating to Melbourne. In his first year as a professional, Allenby topped the PGA Tour of Australasia an achievement that he repeated in 1994.
After 2 successful years on the PGA Tour of Australasia, where he has 12 victories, Robert qualified to the European Tour. He had a stunning year in 1996 winning the English Open, French Open and the British Masters and as a result he finished 3rd in the European Tour Order of Merit. He was denied a shot as his first Order of Merit triumph after his season ended prematurely when he suffered a broken sternum and facial injuries after being in a car crash in Spain. Upon recovery from this he was presented with the Ben Hogan Award in 2001 by the Golf Writers Association of America for the way he recovered.
Robert Allenby has been one of Australia’s finest golfers with 12 PGA Tour of Australasia victories to his name, 4 on the US Tour (The Shell Houston Open and Advil Western Open in 2000, and in 2001 the Nissan Open and Pennsylvania Classic.).
He now plays most of his golf on the US PGA Tour where, in 2006, he finished in the top 65 on the money list for the seventh consecutive season, missing just 2 cuts in 22 starts. He earned exempt status for his rookie season in 1999 by finishing 17th at the 1998 Qualifying School. He had a disappointing first season in America, finishing 126th on the money list, but came good in 2000 when he secured his first and second wins at the Shell Houston Open and the Advil Western Open. He claimed another pair of wins the following season.
His performance at the majors during his career has however been somewhat disappointing with his highest placing being a tie for 7th at the 2004 US Open and the 2008 British Open.
Despite not recording a win in 2008 Robert has still had a successful season. A total of 8 top-10 finishes have helped him to 12th place on the PGA Tour money list with almost $3½million in prize money. His best finish of the season came at the Turning Stone Resort Championship where a bogey on the 69th hole cost him a place in a play-off - somewhere where he has had a great amount of success; Allenby’s tally in that regard is played 9, won 9.
Robert Allenby Club History
Below is a selection of clubs used by Robert Allenby throughout his career
Robert Allenby Tournament History
2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational |
26-29 March 2009 - Bay Hill Country Club and Lodge - This week marked the return of the Tiger Woods we all know and love. After 9 months out of action after re-constructive knew surgery - a birdie putt at the 72nd hole saw Tiger win as Bay Hill for a sixth time. Those familiar back-nine heroics and a putt that everyone knew he was going to drain saw the world number 1 come from 5 strokes back on the final day - equalling his career best comeback. This remarkable comeback must have been great to watch apart from the eyes of Sean O’Hair who Woods beat into second place. |
In Robert Allenby's bag...Opening rounds of 71 and 65 saw Robert fly into contention this week. Despite a third round of 74 he was still in a tie for6th place going into the final round. However a closing round of 71 (even though it was under par) saw him go backwards through the field to finish just outside the top-10 on 1 over par. Now this is not the best shot for identifying club - the fact that you can only see one club tells is this. But we thought it was such a good image - it needed to go into our database. The one club that we can see is a Srixon I-701 Tour iron that Robert carries a full set of. The rest of his clubs also come from the same manufacturer. His driver was a Srixon Z-RW, fairways were Srixon W-403 and finally his wedges were Srixon WG-706.

2008 Australian Masters |
27-30 November 2008 - Sportsbet Australian Masters - Huntingdale GC. Rod Pampling won the Sportsbet Australian Masters after edging out Marcus Fraser at the third play-off hole. The two Australians finished locked at the top of the final round leader board on 12 under par. Fraser carded a brilliant final round seven under par 65, which included just one bogey, while Pampling signed for a fourth round 65 despite having birdie chances at closing 3 holes of his round which would have sealed the win. A the 3rd play-off hole, Pampling put the pressure on his opponent after getting to within a foot, but Fraser secured the win after converting from ten feet. |
In Robert Allenby's bag...Opening and closing rounds of 73 sandwiched rounds of 66 and 67. His closing round of 73 saw him fall from being leader at the 54 hole mark into a finish for 3rd. Not our best photo of the home favourite but from the images that we do have we have been able to identify the following. Robert is currently signed to Srixon. However he used the Taylor Made Burner TP driver. He used Srixon W 403 fairway woods. His irons were Srixon I-701 Tour. He has a single Srixon wedge, a WG-706 that was paired with a Cleveland CG14.

2008 Buick Invitational |
24-27 January - Buick Invitational - Torrey Pines. Tiger Woods joined elite company on the final day of the Buick Invitational, even though he might as well have been playing alone. He thrilled the 4-deep gallery with an improbable flop shot from the trampled grass behind the 9th green to save par. He sent Torrey Pines into delirium with a 60-foot birdie putt that started in one direction and slid into the cup from the other. He made 3 straight bogeys on the back 9, a rarity for him when he's in the lead. And none of it mattered. The outcome was never in doubt at the Buick Invitational, only the final score. A 10-foot birdie on the 18th gave Woods a 1-under 71 and an 8-shot victory, the ninth time in his career that he has won by at least that many. |

2006 World Golf Championship - American Express Championship |
28 September-1 October - American Express WGC - The Grove. From the Ryder Cup matches at the K Club in Ireland, many of the world’s best players headed across the Irish Sea to The Grove in Hertfordshire for the UK leg of the World Golf Championships. With an incredible 23 under par total, Tiger Woods demolished the field to take an astonishing 12th win out of 22 WGC events. Tiger left runners-up Ian Poulter and Adam Scott a very distant eight shots behind. The World Golf Championships are played over five continents – and feature the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings along with top finishers on the money lists of six Tours comprising the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Australasian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Asian Tour and Southern Africa Tour). The formats vary - match play, strokeplay and team - but the purses are always big. On this occasion, Tiger walked away (or rather flew away in his private jet) with over 1 million Euros. Hardly worth turning up was it?! |
In Robert Allenby's bag...Here we can see Robert Allenby's Srixon kit - the irons are i-506s and we're pretty sure the driver is a Srixon W-403. The only thing which isn't Srixon is the Odyssey White Hot XG putter.
