Scott Strange
Residence: Perth, Australia
DOB: 07/04/1977
Scott dominated The Celtic Manor Wales Open to secure his first European Tour Victory. The tournament was played over The Twenty Ten Course for the first time. This is the course that golf course specifically designed to host The 2010 Ryder Cup. Scott finished 4 shots clear of the field for a wire-to-wire victory. Scott had 6 other top-20 finishes in his best season to date. He finished 32nd in the Order of Merit.
A native of Perth, Australia, his highlight as an amateur came when he won the prestigious Lake Macquarie Amateur Championship in his homeland in 2000, the year before he turned professional.
Prior to earning his full European Tour playing privileges Scott played in co-sanctioned events through his membership of the Asian Tour. He won in 2005 in Myanmar and in 2006 in the Philippines. However he finished outside the magical top-115 on each occasion. However he persevered and his Category 12 Membership, allied to his Asian Tour Membership, gave him enough starts in 2007 to make an impact. In 2007 he came 106th on the Order of Merit to finally claim his playing privileges by right for The European Tour after 3 years of trying.
Despite winning the Welsh Open, 2008 has been a good year for Scott. Before his victory he secured a 2nd place at the Johnny Walker Classic and a further top-10 at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. Scott finished 2008 just outside the top-30 on the European Tour Money list and has continued to improve each year on Tour.

Scott Strange Tournament History
2008 Wales Open |
29 May - 1 June - The Welsh Open - Celtic Manor. Scott Strange completed an emphatic wire-to-wire victory at The Celtic Manor Wales Open with a sensational final round 64. Strange’s winning total of 262 was 22 under par and 4 shots better than the next best golfer, Robert Karlsson who was champion in 2006. The Australian becomes the third player to make The Celtic Manor Wales Open his maiden victory on The European Tour following in the footsteps of Steen Tinning (2000) and Simon Khan (2004). Karlsson did close to within a shot at one time with a spectacular run of 6 successive birdies around the turn. Strange was ignoring the leader boards dotted around the Twenty Ten course and seemed oblivious to the cheers ringing out from the group in front as he promptly pulled away. |
In Scott Strange's bag...Scott had a full bag of Titleist clubs as he secured his first win on the European Tour in 2008. It started with a Titleist 907 D2 driver. He carried a Titleist 906 F$ (15˚) fairway wood and a 909H (19˚) hybrid. His irons were Titleist AP2 Forged (3-P) and were completed by Titleist Vokey 2007 Spin Milled Design wedges (54˚ and 60˚). His putter was from Scotty Cameron and is a Red X Model.

2007 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship |
4-7 October - Alfred Dunhill Links Championship - St Andrews (Old Course), Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. Battling Nick Dougherty shoots 71 to hold on for a famous victory. Irish youngster Rory McIlroy hit a sparkling 68 to finish third. Aussie student Robert Coe & Scott Strange win Team Championship. |
In Scott Strange's bag...An opening round of 66 paved the way for a solid week for the Australian. Rounds of 70, 69 and a 72 in the final round saw Scott finish inside the top-10 for only the second time this season. The €50,000 that he picked up this week saw him sneak inside the magical top-125 on the European Tour Order of Merit and retain his playing privileges for the 2008 season. Taken back in 2007 we can see how Scott has progressed through the game and secured him a bag deal since this shot was taken. Here we can see that he is using a mixture of clubs from the top manufacturers. His driver (TaylorMade R7 425 TP), fairway (R7 Ti) and hybrid (Rescue Dual TP) were all from TaylorMade. The second half of his bag however was made up from Titleist clubs. His irons were Titleist 690 CB (with a little lead tape). We can zoom right in on his Titleist wedge to determine the loft and even bounce angle - it was a Spin Milled 54.10.
